This document describes the Job description of Network Engineer. As a Network Engineer, you are responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring and managing the BNA’s network to ensure maximum uptime for customers and end-users. The role can include designing system configurations, documenting and managing the installation of a new network, and maintaining and upgrading existing systems as necessary. Furthermore, as a network engineer you will take a global perspective on technological developments and lead in the assessment, prioritization, and implementation of physical as well as logical network segments.
Qualifications and requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- 5+ years’ experience as Network Engineer Active CCNP certification
- Experience with BGP and other routing protocols
- Experience with firewall implementation and configuration
- Experience with servicing customers
- Experience working with high-end network
Key Accountabilities and responsibilities
- Deliver and implement thought leadership for defining the network development path to sales growth and profitability of Dataplanet
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the basics behind the Internet and its workings (DNS, Security, IP Routing, VPN, etc.)
- Configure and setup Firewalls, VPN and Security appliances for access to vital business applications
- Design, setup and configure complex switching environments
- Design, setup and configure complex wireless networking that supports open or secured access
- Maintain a thorough understanding of Local Area Networking
- Configuring, installing and maintaining network and telecommunication systems.
- Maintaining multi-site network operations with both private and public facilities/clouds
- Managing assigned projects and program components to deliver services in accordance with established objectives.
- Responding to inquiries from staff, administrators, service providers, site personnel and outside vendors and to provide technical assistance and support
- Any other duties as assigned by management
- Develop collaborative working relationships within network and IT solution providers/vendors in pursuit of the of Dataplanet’s overall network and IT development goals
- Oversee the market network and IT solution opportunities and manage associated risks.
- Review prior network implementation results and discusses anticipated changes to highlight future needs and
trends. - Review monthly operating reports for accuracy, completeness, and major variances
- Prepare network and IT relevant presentations
- Report to the IT Manager
Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of router security (access-lists, firewall, VPN, AAA, radius)
- Knowledge of routing protocols EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, RIP
- Knowledge of OSI layer troubleshooting and application thereof
- Demonstrated experience in developing AND executing successful network strategies
- Ability to think creatively and develop non-traditional solutions to complex business challenges
- Excellent technical, analytical and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of VoIP implementation and support
- Ability to communicate in an understandable, polite and friendly manner, both written and verbal
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a small business environment
